Layman's definition for BIM is to model a design in 3D.
Differentiated from a 3D
rendering and 3D animation of which final
and accurate dimensions are not truly finalized and cannot be used for
construction purposes.
To design from the get go..in any 3d design tool such as Revit or ArchiCAD is to apply
BIM process immediately and is to an advantage.
To create a BIM model, as what is usually done today,..from 2d designs from separate
consultants , all of which areas, Architectural, Structural and MEP/HVAC are
given to all separate design consultants, means to get all/design and drawings
and consolidating it on one BIM 3Dmodel.
ADVANTAGE?..the model is based on true design dimensions and measurements
and therefore represents an accurate representation of the end –on site project
with all the detects(clashes). Thereby letting the consultants
address and issues prior to constructing, Virtually, saving time and money on
the actual site.
The ability to churn out drawings is a matter of
sectioning out from the model saving again time, a drawing or drawings can be
fashioned out in matter of seconds.
Design change is easy and error free, when you choose to
change an area, if it affects another area, the model will inform you of the
error. Letting you make proper adjustments to the model.
All cost and materials are integrated into
the model, if needed. Making cost and measurement analysis accurate.
